Grocery Shopping in Germany

When you step inside a German grocery store, try not to drool. These places are large. They have things called choices. Not to mention the long lost concept of a freezer section.

It can all be a bit overwhelming for the shopper used to stores the size of a closet. If you’ve got your camera along, you just might be inspired to take a photo of the wonder of it all. There’s a reason shopping across the border is called “consumer tourism.” (more…)

Steve’s adventure

Aunt Margaret and Steve came to visit us last week from Canada. They were touring Europe by train with their Eurail passes. Both over 70, they were having a lot of adventures as they went from country to country. “

They’re not going to have any adventures here in Riehen,” I thought to myself when I heard their tales. Riehen is a quiet town of 20,000 inhabitants on the border to Germany, just 15 minutes by tram from Basel. (more…)
